NCSAEL PARTICIPATES AT "Technological Transformation in Pakistan: an Asset or Liability"

On 9th November 2020, Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad and Hanns Seidel Foundation, Pakistan jointly organized a Roundtable Discussion on “Technological Transformation in Pakistan: an Asset or Liability” at Margala Hotel, Islamabad. The event was attended by NCSAEL's researcher Ali Tanveer as a panelist to discuss the Cybersecurity Aspect of the Technological Transformation in Pakistan. He highlighted the importance of Emergency Response Systems at National Level. He agreed that, at present, technology transformation is an asset for Pakistan. He raised the motion on the floor that if we are not going to go for indigenous development, technological development can become a liability. Other panelists stated that technological transformation has become a prerequisite for the development of a state. With the rapid developments in the field of science and technology along with increased digitization across the globe, the traditional sphere of various sectors in Pakistan such as economy, governance, market-customer relations, healthcare, education and even security has largely transformed. It is therefore imperative to analyze these developments, discuss the challenges and their possible solutions equally.

SECURITY CHALLENGES IN SOFTWARE DEFINED NETWORKS

The search for better networking paradigms has fostered the emergence of Software Defined Networking (SDN), which is flexible enough to accommodate the ever-growing number of users. SDN offers network operators with significant visibility and granularity in their networks. However, with every new technology paradigm, its security concerns are a serious challenge. In SDN, the control plane is separated from the underlying forwarding plane and so it is prone to many security challenges like Denial of Service (DoS) attack, Distributed DoS (DDoS) attack, Volumetric attack, etc. Join us in an educational conversation on “Security Challenges in SDNs” on 8th October 2020 at 12 PM.
